A historic bill to create much-needed regulations for the state’s flourishing, $1.8 billion estimated medical pot industry landed in the dustbin today.

The Assembly Appropriations Committee failed to pass Senate Bill 1262 this afternoon. The bill had until today to get out of Appropriations, and the end of the month to pass the Assembly. It was “held in committee”. No vote was given.

“We’ll have to get started working on this again in January,” said Don Duncan, head of California Americans for Safe Access, the day before the hearing.

There has never been a cannabis consumption event held on any property at Hollywood and Highland until last Saturday night and what an event it was! It all began when Susan Soares was asked by The State of Marijuana producers to throw an after party. Getting sponsors for the event was easy. What wasn't so easy was getting a venue close enough to the event that was affordable and would allow cannabis consumption. Through effective lobbying she was able to convince the owners that not only was it legal for them to have an event of this type, it would be good for their bottom line.

This is an exclusive conversation on the innovations in marijuana. Key figures and opinion leaders across business, media and academic sectors will gather to discuss the implications of the nation’s evolving perspectives on Cannabis, and what the future will hold for the controversial herb. Legislators, entrepreneurs, investors and medical experts will share their views and more on this burning topic. 

Medical marijuana is currently legal in 22 states, 2 of which have legalized cannabis for recreational use. With the imminent reform on medical marijuana laws nationwide, many societal and economic issues will be brought to the forefront.  

C.A.R.E. had a booth at Chalice California last weekend. We held a raffle to raise money to fight SB1262. #ChaliceCalifornia was a first time event in San Bernardino, CA. The minute we drove into the venue we were BLOWN AWAY!!! And that's the reaction that we heard from 99.99999% of the vendors and attendees.

C.A.R.E. is a new organization populated by people that have quietly been making positive change for cannabis. We accomplished a successful launch fundraiser at The Emerald Cup in December 2013. We had our second RAFFLE at the Los Angeles High Times event February 8 & 9. We have commissioned an economic study on the impact of cannabis legalization on California's economy. This study, to be completed in the first half of this year, will be available to lawmakers, activists and consultants working in the cannabis space. There is a need for California to set the standard for what smart and effective cannabis regulation looks like. This would include family farms as a source of important local job creation. Cannabis and the ancillary businesses that will be created by legalization is America's fastest growing industry!! Details to come soon!
